There is a number for this one, and it is worth being precise about what it counts. Instagram's account switcher holds a small, fixed set of accounts — commonly cited as five — and that is a cap on how many you can be signed into at once, not on how many you may own.

Those two things get conflated constantly, and the conflation is why the advice you find is contradictory. One article says five. Another says unlimited. Both are describing something real; they are just describing different limits.

Four different ceilings hiding in one question

2. Owned in total. Not the same thing. Accounts you are not signed into still exist. Signing out of one to sign into another has no ceiling.

3. Per email address or phone number. An identity question rather than an Instagram question. Each account needs its own sign-in route, so the real ceiling here is how many independent email addresses and phone numbers you control — a fact about you, not about the platform.

4. How many you are permitted to have. The one people actually mean. Instagram's terms concern behaviour — impersonation, spam, coordinated inauthentic activity — rather than a headcount. Running a main account and a niche account and a business account is ordinary.
