X Original Content Rewards: Which Posts Get Paid, Which Do Not, and the Automation Sentence Read Carefully
- Revenue Sharing closed to new members on August 7, 2026. Members earned through September 7; from September 8 X began rolling out access for them to apply.
- Pay is based on Premium users' Home Timeline impressions. Joining needs Premium, 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions in 90 days and 500 verified followers.
- Four types earn nothing: copied, minimally modified, aggregated, and cross-platform reposts by someone other than the creator. Commentary and analysis count as original.
- Content "created or posted using automated means" is ineligible for payouts. That is an earnings rule, not a ban on scheduling or tools, but it does mean automated posts should not be expected to pay.
If your X payout looked strange in September, you may not have been throttled at all. The program you were being paid under stopped earning on September 7, and the one replacing it pays for fewer kinds of posts.
The new program is called X Original Content Rewards. Its rules sit on one help page (help.x.com/en/using-x/original-content-rewards, read in full on September 23, 2026), and they draw lines that Revenue Sharing never spelled out: which content counts as original, which earns nothing, and one sentence about automation that is already being misquoted.
The switch-over dates, exactly as X gives them
- August 7, 2026: "we're no longer accepting new enrollments into Revenue Sharing."
- Through September 7, 2026: current Revenue Sharing members "continue earning". Payouts landed on August 14 and August 28, and a final one for earnings up to September 7 was "expected on or around September 11."
- From September 8, 2026: "we'll begin rolling out access for existing Revenue Sharing members to apply for the new Original Content Rewards Program." Note the wording. It is a rollout to existing members, and each of them still has to apply and meet the requirements. Being in the old program does not move you across automatically.
One exclusion catches people off guard: "If your account's monetization is currently paused due to a previous policy violation, you will not be eligible to enroll in the Original Content Rewards Program at this time." If your earnings were paused under the old program, that pause now keeps you out of the new one.
What actually gets paid, and who can join
Payouts are based on qualified impressions, which X defines as "unique impressions from Premium users (subscribers to X Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business) on the Home Timeline feed, where at least 50% of the post is visible." Repeat impressions from the same account on the same post, paid or promoted impressions, "artificially generated" impressions and fraudulent ones are all excluded.
So the audience that pays you is narrower than your total view count: Premium subscribers, on the Home Timeline, who actually saw most of the post.
To apply, all of these have to be true when you apply:
- An active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription.
- "At least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days (impressions on replies are excluded)."
- "At least 500 verified followers."
- Age 18 or over, a personal or business account (not political or government), good standing, and residence in a listed country. The list is long and includes the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Spain, Mexico, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Meeting all of that "does not guarantee admission". If you are turned down you get one appeal, and if that fails "you can reapply after 42 days". Payouts are "processed every two weeks and the minimum payout is $30", through X Money for US users and Stripe elsewhere.
Four kinds of content that earn nothing, and the one kind X defends
This is the core of the program. X lists four content types that "are not considered original content":

The last line is the one clipping and translation accounts need to read twice. Of the four big platforms we have compared on reposting, X is the only one that lists cross-platform reposting as its own category. Its payout rules also add a useful exception: re-uploaded content is ineligible "unless you are the author of that content". Posting your own TikTok on X is fine. Posting someone else's is not.
Then comes the part creators should hold on to: "Commentary is at the heart of X. Reacting to, analyzing, or building on what's happening in the world is a legitimate and valued form of original expression." X gives examples that count: breaking down a news story, sharing your take on a cultural moment, "adding context others don't have". The test is stated just as clearly: "What doesn't count is content where your contribution is minimal or absent."
On X, reacting to someone else's post can earn money. Re-uploading it cannot. What decides it is what you added.
X also keeps copyright separate: "Content may qualify as original under this program and still violate our intellectual property rules." Commentary is original for payout purposes, but that does not give you the right to use someone else's footage. The automation sentence, read carefully
Two sentences on the page mention automation. They say different things.
The first is a conduct rule for staying in the program: "Do not use automated tools, bots, or any tool or software to artificially generate likes, follows, views, comments, or shares." It is about faking engagement. Breaking it can get you removed from the program, temporarily or permanently depending on how serious it is.
The second is a content rule. Under "Content will be ineligible if", X lists: "Was created or posted using automated means." Ineligible means the post does not earn. It does not mean the post is removed or the account is banned.
Two misreadings are already going around, and both are wrong:
- "X bans scheduling and posting tools." This page does not say that. It is a monetization page, and the sentence decides which posts pay, not which posts are allowed.
- "Scheduled posts still earn, it's only about bots." The page does not say that either. X does not define "automated means" on this page and does not carve out any kind of scheduling. Anyone who tells you exactly where X draws that line is guessing.
The practical reading: if an account is in the program, the posts you want paid for should be written by you and posted by you. That applies to any automation tool, NoobClaw included. A checklist before you apply
- Check whether your monetization was paused under Revenue Sharing. If it was, you cannot enroll for now.
- Audit your last 90 days of posts against the four categories. Clipped, sped-up or re-uploaded posts will not produce qualified impressions even if they got the most views.
- Turn reposts into commentary. Quote or link the original and add the analysis or context that only you can give. That is the kind of post X names as original.
- Keep automated posting off the account you monetize, or at least off the posts you want paid for.
- Stop asking for engagement. Repeatedly asking people to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost is listed under continuous eligibility as something not to do.
- Label AI-generated videos of armed conflict. Since March 3, 2026, posting them without an AI disclosure means a 90-day suspension from the program.
FAQ
Is X Creator Revenue Sharing still running?
No. New enrollments stopped on August 7, 2026, and existing members earned through September 7, 2026, with a final payout expected on or around September 11. Original Content Rewards replaces it, and existing members have to apply and meet its requirements.
Do quote posts and reaction videos count as original content on X?
They can. X says reacting to, analyzing or building on events is "a legitimate and valued form of original expression". What matters is how much you add. A quote post with real analysis counts. A re-upload with a one-word caption falls under "minimally modified".
Will scheduling my posts get my X account banned?
The Original Content Rewards page is not a ban rule. It says content "created or posted using automated means" is ineligible for payouts. It does not define that phrase or exempt any kind of scheduling. So automated posts should not be counted on for earnings.
