Free social media schedulers can cover a small queue, but ongoing free access, a temporary trial and self-hosted software are different offers. Buffer and Publer publish ongoing free tiers with three connected accounts and ten queued posts per account or channel, subject to their own conditions. Postiz offers a trial and a separate self-hosted route. This October 11, 2026 review explains those boundaries without claiming a universal maximum for every free product.
Free is useful when the supported account, queue and review workflow fit; it does not establish unlimited unattended publication.
Buffer Free is a reusable queue with a small account bundle
Buffer’s current Free plan includes three channels, ten queued posts per channel and one user. A queue place becomes available as a scheduled post leaves the queue; the ten-place limit is not a ten-post monthly quota. This distinction matters for an operator who prepares work regularly instead of loading a large calendar all at once. It does not establish a platform-wide daily publishing entitlement.
The current Free offer also includes an ideas allowance, preparation features including AI assistance, and a limited insights history. These are different resources from queue slots. A product that supports content preparation should not be described as merely transferring finished text. Equally, an AI-assisted caption is not evidence that a supported video has been produced, reviewed and accepted at every destination.
For a hypothetical schedule of one planned post per day on each of three supported channels, ten places per channel can hold ten future posts on each channel before replenishment. That arithmetic describes queue occupancy only. It is not a guarantee that all thirty posts will publish, a recommendation to post daily or a tested reach strategy. Publer Free has separate scheduling, draft and history limits
Publer’s current Free plan allows three social accounts, excluding X, with ten scheduled posts per account. It also lists twenty-five drafts, one user, one workspace and twenty-four hours of published-post history. Draft storage is not the same allowance as the scheduled queue. If you need historical reporting or several reviewers, confirm the appropriate paid feature rather than assuming that the free account count covers the whole workflow.
The ten scheduled posts are rolling queue places, rather than a fixed monthly output total. Immediate publication does not consume a future scheduling place in the same way, but that distinction does not prove unlimited daily posting or the absence of platform and vendor safeguards. The current pricing page lists paid Professional and Business options; their captured amounts were not populated, so this review does not invent an upgrade price.
For a hypothetical three-account operator preparing seven future posts for each account, the stated scheduled allowance is sufficient on paper. A fourth account, an X connection, additional people or longer reporting history changes the requirement. Check the exact supported content format and the paid configuration when one of those is needed. A blank captured amount is a quote gap, not proof that the page requires authentication.
A trial and optional self-hosting solve different problems
Postiz’s hosted offer has a seven-day trial and paid monthly plans starting at $29 for five channels. A trial is appropriate for evaluating a particular supported workflow over its stated period. It is not an ongoing hosted free entitlement, and the existence of an open-source codebase does not automatically extend hosted service access after the trial ends. Keep the hosting model in the comparison.
Postiz also offers an open-source self-hosted route. Operating that route can require a server, updates, backups, provider configuration and the relevant provider app or account permissions. Those are infrastructure and operational obligations even when there is no software subscription charge for the selected code. Self-hosting does not make the number of channels, posts, compute resources or approved provider actions genuinely unbounded.
Later and SocialBee advertise fourteen-day trials on their marketing pages. A trial is a temporary offer. Later’s current help guide separately documents Free with twelve general posts per profile per month, including drafts, and one YouTube Short per month. Confirm the applicable Free or legacy arrangement in your account instead of concluding that the trial page rules out every ongoing free route. This review does not claim that no other vendor offers a larger free bundle. It compares the documented options here and leaves unexamined products outside the conclusion instead of treating an incomplete shortlist as a market-wide census.
Choose by the missing constraint rather than the word free
Write down the channels, future queue length, operators and reporting history you need. For a solo three-channel inventory with a short queue, an ongoing free tier may cover the scheduling requirement. For an agency with client reviewers, the role and approval requirement can be more important than the connection count. Confirm those features explicitly rather than adding an account under a shared login as a substitute for permission controls.
If a larger queue is the only missing requirement, compare the appropriate paid tiers. Buffer Essentials begins at $6 monthly per channel in its first band; SocialBee Bootstrap is $29 monthly for five profiles. The configurations are different and may include different functionality. An apparently lower headline amount is not evidence that the needed format, approval or reporting feature is included.
Evaluate one representative post through the intended route and retain the observed result. Notification delivery may require a person to finish a post; automatic scheduling may still have account and format conditions. This is a proposed test, not a completed publication comparison. A paid subscription does not replace destination permission, and a free subscription does not prove that the vendor monetizes account data.
Separate a free queue from the creative you put into it
NoobClaw’s public execution record describes one locally exported vertical video, not a free hosted scheduling plan. Audio and subtitles were present, while the recorded visual mismatch and unapproved voice and assets required review. That single case can help define a creative acceptance step; it cannot establish which scheduler publishes better, how many accounts should be operated or how much reach a free plan will produce.
If you already have approved creatives, evaluate the supported queue and final delivery. If the missing piece is a script or video, use a production workflow and judge its result before adding it to a scheduler. Some of the listed products include AI-assisted preparation themselves. Choose by the actual output and the supported integration, not a claim that all schedulers lack content features or that one production tool covers every publication route.
Record why a free configuration is sufficient and what event would trigger an upgrade: another supported account, a longer queue, another authorized reviewer or a required reporting view. This makes the purchasing decision inspectable without a speculative growth promise. Keep source dates and revisit the current plan when the requirement changes; a free offer is a vendor condition, not a permanent guarantee for every future workflow.
