Sprout Social Alternatives (2026): The Sixth Profile Adds $300 a Month on Monthly Billing, So Sort by Pricing Unit
- Sprout Social charges per seat: $99, $249, $399 or $499 a month billed monthly ($79 to $399 yearly). Essentials and Standard stop at 5 social profiles; unlimited profiles start at Professional.
- For one person on monthly billing, going from 5 to 6 profiles moves the bill from $99 to $399. Every subscription alternative in our table is cheaper than that at 10, 25 and 50 accounts.
- Sort by billing unit: seats (Hootsuite), channels on a sliding scale (Buffer), a base plan plus 5-account packs at $20 (SocialPilot), channel bundles (Postiz) or a one-time licence (Mixpost).
- Buffer, SocialPilot and Hootsuite have inboxes; their social plans lack Sprout’s review management, Cases with CRM hand-off and reporting depth. Care teams: Hootsuite. Mostly publishing: per-channel.
Most people who search "sprout social alternatives" have hit the same wall: the sixth profile. Sprout Social's Essentials and Standard plans both stop at five connected social profiles, and the next plan that removes the cap costs $399 per seat per month on monthly billing. For a single operator that is a jump from $99 to $399 for one extra account.
We loaded Sprout's pricing page and the pricing pages of five replacements on September 29, 2026, and priced the four subscription tools at 5, 10, 25 and 50 accounts. The short version: the right replacement depends on what the tool charges for, not on its feature list. Prices below are USD list prices before tax.
Why do people look for Sprout Social alternatives?
Because Sprout prices two things at once: people and profiles. The Sprout Social pricing page sells every plan "per seat/month", and its FAQ lists the monthly-billing rates as "Essentials: $99 per seat/month", "Standard: $249", "Professional: $399" and "Advanced: $499".
| Sprout plan | Yearly billing (per seat/month) | Monthly billing (per seat/month) | Social profiles | AI agent credits per seat/month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 | $99 | 5 | 100 |
| Standard | $199 | $249 | 5 | 100 |
| Professional | $299 | $399 | Unlimited | 100 |
| Advanced | $399 | $499 | Unlimited | 100 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Not listed | Not listed | |

What counts toward the five? The page's own tooltip says: "The following profile types count against your profile limit: Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, LinkedIn Company Pages, Google My Business, TripAdvisor, Glassdoor, Yelp, and LinkedIn personal profiles." So a brand with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and X has used the whole Essentials allowance. The Standard plan help article says you can "Connect up to five" profiles and lists the add-ons you can buy (Listening, Premium Analytics, Advocacy, extra Brand Keywords). The Professional plan article is where "Connect unlimited social profiles" appears.
Run the division. At five profiles, Essentials costs $99 ÷ 5 = $19.80 per profile on monthly billing. At six, the cheapest plan that fits is Professional: $399 ÷ 6 = $66.50 per profile. Professional only matches Essentials' $19.80 per profile at 21 profiles ($399 ÷ 21 = $19.00); at 50 it is $7.98 ($399 ÷ 50).
Sprout is not expensive per profile once you are deep into Professional. It is expensive at six, seven and eight profiles, which is exactly where a growing operator lives.
One thing we noticed while checking the search results: the Sprout page that ranks for this query, "Sprout Social Alternatives & Competitors" (published 2026-03-09), is a hub of Sprout articles about alternatives to other tools, starting with Agorapulse, Brandwatch and Buffer. It does not say what replaces Sprout when the problem is the profile cap.
Which Sprout Social alternatives charge for what?
Our judgment after pricing them: group alternatives by billing unit first, because the unit decides who each tool is cheap for.
- Per seat, but more accounts per seat: Hootsuite. The Hootsuite plans page lists Standard at $99 and Professional at $199 "per user/month, billed annually", with 10 social accounts on Standard and "Unlimited" on Professional. The page says plans "are sold per user (or "seat")" and that monthly billing costs more, but the monthly rate is not printed, so Hootsuite figures below are annual-rate figures.
- Per channel, sliding scale: Buffer. Buffer's pricing file charges Essentials $6 per channel for channels 1 to 10, $4 for 11 to 25, $3 for 26 to 50 and $1 above 50 on monthly billing, with one user. The Team plan is $12 per channel for the first ten, then the same $4 and $3 steps, with "Unlimited team members".
- Base plan plus 5-account packs: SocialPilot. SocialPilot sells Essentials $30 (7 accounts, 1 user), Standard $50 (15 accounts, 3 users), Premium $100 (25, 6 users) and Ultimate $200 (50, unlimited users) on monthly billing. Every card shows "Extra Accounts" at $4 a month, and the tooltip next to it says: "Additional social media accounts available in bundles of 5 at $20 per month." (Its markdown pricing file lists $4 per account without the bundle note; confirm at checkout.)
- Channel bundles: Postiz. Postiz charges $29 for 5 channels, $39 for 10, $49 for 30 and $99 for 100, each with "Unlimited posts per month". The Team, Pro and Ultimate cards also list "Unlimited team members"; its FAQ calls the $29 Standard plan "a solo plan".
- One-time licence, self-hosted: Mixpost. Mixpost Pro is $299 once for "1 domain or subdomain" and "1-Year free updates". You run it on your own server, so the hosting bill is yours and is not in the table. Updates after year one need an optional renewal.
Here is what one person pays each month at four account counts. Each cell shows the calculation.
| 1 person | 5 accounts | 10 accounts | 25 accounts | 50 accounts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social (monthly) | Essentials $99 | Professional $399 | Professional $399 | Professional $399 |
| Hootsuite (annual rate) | Standard $99 | Standard $99 | Professional $199 | Professional $199 |
| Buffer Essentials (monthly) | 5 × $6 = $30 | 10 × $6 = $60 | $60 + 15 × $4 = $120 | $60 + $60 + 25 × $3 = $195 |
| SocialPilot (monthly, cheapest route) | Essentials $30 | Standard $50 (or Essentials $30 + one 5-pack $20 = $50) | Standard $50 + 2 × 5-pack $20 = $90 | Standard $50 + 7 × 5-pack $20 = $190 |
| Postiz (monthly) | $29 (5 channels) | $39 (10) | $49 (30) | $99 (100) |
Round SocialPilot up to whole packs: at 10 accounts, Essentials plus one pack costs the same $50 as Standard; at 25, Standard plus two packs ($90) beats Premium ($100); at 50, Standard plus seven packs ($190) beats Ultimate ($200). Our SocialPilot pricing breakdown lists the plan cards; Buffer's sliding scale is unpacked in Buffer's per-channel pricing at scale, and Postiz's tiers in Postiz pricing.

One exception to the "per seat is expensive" story: at 50 accounts, Hootsuite Professional on one seat ($199) costs about the same as Buffer ($195) and SocialPilot ($190). Seat pricing is cheap for one person with many accounts, as long as the seat has no profile cap.
What changes when a team shares the accounts?
Seats start to dominate. Take three people sharing 25 accounts, all on monthly billing except Hootsuite, which only prints its annual rate.
| 3 people, 25 accounts | Calculation | Per month |
|---|---|---|
| Sprout Professional | 3 seats × $399 (yearly: 3 × $299 = $897) | $1,197 |
| Hootsuite Professional | 3 seats × $199, annual rate | $597 |
| Loomly Beyond | flat price, unlimited users, 60 accounts | $332 |
| Buffer Team | 10 × $12 + 15 × $4 | $180 |
| SocialPilot Standard | $50 (15 accounts, 3 users) + 2 × 5-pack $20 | $90 |
| Postiz Pro | $49 flat, 30 channels, "Unlimited team members" | $49 |
Loomly's figures come from loomly.com/pricing (Starter $65 for 12 accounts and 3 users, Beyond $332 for 60 accounts and unlimited users). Postiz's Team, Pro and Ultimate plans all list "Unlimited team members", so three people on 25 channels fit in Pro at $49.

This is the complaint that shows up in operator forums. In a r/SocialMediaMarketing thread from September 25, 2026, a marketer handling pages for 40+ locations said they did not want to raise their Hootsuite bill by adding 40+ members. An account named u/max-at-sprout replied that 40-plus users is enterprise territory for any tool in this category, Sprout included, so per-seat pricing will be a real cost wherever they go. (Our note on Hootsuite's per-seat model walks through who that model suits.)
What do you give up when you leave Sprout Social?
Sprout is sold as a customer-care and reporting suite, not a scheduler. The Standard help article lists the Smart Inbox, review management, keyword and location monitoring, Cases assigned to team members and CRM hand-off; the pricing page reserves the Sprout API and helpdesk integrations for Advanced. The inbox itself is not what you lose: Buffer's community inbox handles comments, SocialPilot's Social Inbox covers comments, messages and stories from Standard up, and Hootsuite's plan cards include responding to messages from one inbox. What none of their social media plans includes is review management or Cases; SocialPilot sells review management separately as SocialPilot Reviews.
So the decision comes down to three lines:
- You live in the inbox and answer reviews every day: moving to a scheduler would cost you workflow. Hootsuite Professional is the nearest per-seat swap with unlimited accounts. Our Metricool vs Sprout Social comparison covers the analytics side.
- You mostly publish, one or two people, many accounts: pay per channel or per account. Postiz is the cheapest line in our table at every count we tested. SocialPilot and Buffer cost more, so compare their analytics and approval features with what you actually use; Buffer's approval workflows sit on its Team plan.
- You want to own the software: Mixpost's $299 licence has no account meter, but you run the hosting yourself and pay for a renewal if you want updates after year one.
There is a fourth case none of these tools cover: the bottleneck is producing different posts for each account, not scheduling them. NoobClaw is one option there. It is a desktop app where you log in to your own accounts in separate local browser profiles, without handing over passwords, and it drafts each account's posts from that account's own niche and persona before publishing to platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook and Reddit. Its video workflow can save output locally for review instead of publishing straight away. It has no unified inbox, listening or approval calendar, so it does not replace Sprout for care teams. Membership tiers set the accounts allowed per platform; current prices are on the NoobClaw site.
FAQ
Is there a free Sprout Social alternative?
Sprout itself has a 30-day trial and no free plan. Among the tools above, Buffer's Free plan covers up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time and one user, and Mixpost Lite is free but publishes only to Facebook Pages, X and Mastodon. Both suit testing, not a large roster.
Is Hootsuite cheaper than Sprout Social?
Not at the entry tier. On annual rates, Hootsuite Standard is $99 per seat against Sprout Essentials at $79. But Hootsuite Standard includes 10 accounts against Sprout's 5, and Hootsuite Professional ($199) removes the account cap for $100 less than Sprout Professional ($299). At 10 accounts on one seat, that is $99 on Hootsuite against $299 on Sprout, both on annual billing.
Can I add a sixth profile to Sprout Standard without upgrading?
We could not find a way on Sprout's public pages. The pricing page's add-on section shows Premium Analytics, Listening, Employee Advocacy and Professional Services, its FAQ describes Trellis Plus, and the Standard help article lists Listening, Premium Analytics, Advocacy and extra Brand Keywords. Profiles are not on any of those lists, and "Unlimited social profiles" heads the Professional card. Ask Sprout's sales team to be sure.
